This is a wonderful, challenging itinerary that takes you around the western coast from Palermo to Selinunte, then inland as far as Enna in the very centre of the island and finally north to Cefalu on the coast.
Starting from Mondello just north of Palermo you will follow the coast west around the shores of the picturesque Golfo di Castellammare to the resort of the same name for a two night stopover. The loop ride from here takes in the pretty coastal village of Scopello and gives the option to hike in the beautiful Zingaro National Park. Leaving Castellammare you pedal west to visit the temple at Segesta on the way to Trapani on the Mediterranean Coast. The loop ride from Trapani leads north to San Vito lo Capo and to Erice. The next stage takes you south through Marsala around the coast to Mazara del Vallo and on to visit the fabulous ruins at Selinunte. From Selinunte you pedal inland over rolling terrain to Palazzo Adriano, from where you pedal over rolling hills to Alia. The leg from Alia to Enna is a challenging ride with plenty of tough climbing. You stay at Enna for two nights with a loop ride to Palazzo Armerina. Leaving Enna you ride north to Nicosia. The final ride takes you through the Madonie Park and then on a long and thrilling descent to the coast at Cefalu. From Cefalu you have a train ride along the coast back to Palermo.
