Tour Overview

This tour explores Sligo Lakeland, Fermanagh Lakeland, the Blue Stack Mountains, Leitrim and the Glen Peninsula in Donegal. This is a wonderful (and moderatley challenging) itinerary.

Starting from Boyle, you first ride north around a series of lakes to arrive at Rosses Point on the coast north of Sligo. The next leg continues north following the coast to Ballyshannon. The next leg continues to hug the coast as far as Donegal Town before turning inland to climb over the hills to Ardara for a two night stoipover. The loop ride from Ardara is a marvellous circuit of the Glen Peninsula. Leaving Ardara you ride north as far as Dunglow and The Rosses and then double back to Glenties. The ride from here takes you east through the Blue Stack Mountians to the twin towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar. The next leg leads south through the Pullens to Belleek. From here you continue south through atmospheric forested terrain to the twin villages of Belcoo and Blacklion. On the second day of this two night halt you ride around the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain. The last leg takes you south around Lough Allen and back to Boyle.

You might want to consider a second overnight in Ballybofey around the halfway point – either for a rest, or for a ride to the walled city of Derry to the north.
