If you are out of condition, the first day’s ride of this beautiful itinerary will find you out as you climb steadily south up the Saja Valley, finally summiting at Naveda near the source of the Ebro. From here you continue south to Aguilar de Campoo and then turn west to Cervera di Pisuerga for a two night stopover. The ride from here is the marvellous Reservoirs Ride. From Cervera you climb north to the Puerto de Piedras Luengas and then enjoy a wonderful descent to Potes in the basin of the Picos for a two night stopover. There are many options for the loop ride from here, including taking the cable car from Fuente De and then hiking down through the mountains. From Potes you ride north alongside the River Deva through the Gorge of La Hermida to Las Arenas de Cabrales. From Arenas you continue west to Cangas, and then cross the Sierra de la Cubeta to meet the Casta Verde at Llanes. The next route follows the coast east to San Vicente for a two night stopover. There are several great options for the loop ride from here. Finally you follow the coast through Comillas back to Santillana – or you can extend the route and finish in Santander.
